Breakfast Buffet Marathon

Let me relate the all exciting event of indulging in a morning buffet before I forget what we actually indulged on. It was a bleak Friday morning with no silver lining even remotely in sight. I suppose something took hold of our senses when we stepped out into the refreshing Colombo air, that unanimously we decided to head towards the Hilton breakfast buffet.( Just to clarify me and Chatsical were starving from the day before)

It was a race against time as we ran all the way to Hilton and stopped only when our eyes met up with the scrumptious breakfast spread. I can only speak for myself with regards to the food here, so to start off I had some rice, vada, potato hash and baked potato along with scrambled eggs and some vegetables. I have to say the potato treats were nicely done and the scrambled egg was simply melting in my mouth. As the clock went on ticking we went for the second round and I ended up with a plate of buns, cheese,a chocolate muffin, and a bowl of salad along with a glass of orange juice. The Salad won this round as it was both fresh and filled with all the nutrients a breakfast should have.( We are the healthy ones after all)

As it came alarmingly close to our time to leave, I gulped down some warm coffee to seal the much deserved treat thoroughly in my expanded belly.Afterwards we ran back to where ever it is we came from. In conclusion I would say the whole manic run down to Hilton and back was the missing silver lining of the day, although my tummy would have appreciated more time to take in all the food i was shoving down my throat.

Of Spas and Pampering

I am going to post a little something now as this is long overdue. As we find new and innovative ways to keep ourselves occupied 100% of the time me and Chatsical decided to explore the world of spas and pampering. Hence, a couple of days ago we trotted across to the renowned  and grandly rebuilt Dutch Hospital in search of exotic ways to treat our bodies right( in truth thought we went so I could get a gift for my sister). Unfortunately our target, Spa Ceylon was closed although they  had advertised to be open from 10am onwards. So much for trusting the world wide web! Anyway, we are not quitters so we turned int he direction of Odel, which apparently kept its word of opening for business at 10am.Once inside came across quite a large collection of massage oils which ranged from lime to rose, from promising peace of mind to erotic behavior! I was lost in the myriad of aromas but finally decided to get a rose oil.

Well, as I mentioned before we maybe a lot of things but one thing we are not is quitters! So we tried Spa Ceylon one more time and voila!it was open. The interior of the store is quite impressive with a large range of herbal miracles promising a better, cleaner and clearer skin. Unfortunately we were short of time so I had to settle for a sandalwood body scrub. However, we made a promise to ourselves to visit again as our quest for perfect skin is not over yet.

An Interesting Way of Beating Stress

Ironing (do we have someone here who never irons??;)

Ironing is hardly a popular household task. But the repetitive back-and-forth motions associated with that activity may be one of the best stress reducers around. Why? It has a lot in common with meditation, says Deb Shapiro, 30-year meditation teacher, based in Boulder, Colo., and co-author of Be the Change: How Meditation Can Transform You and the World (Sterling Ethos, 2009).

Strange But True: In day-to-day living, people tend to keep their minds busy with a myriad of activities, says Shapiro. When we’re stressed, that busyness is exaggerated. As a result, our heart rate and blood pressure may increase. Meditation helps us become totally present with whatever we’re doing, she says. Even the simple act of breathing in and out—focusing on the rhythm of the breath—can immediately quiet the body and the mind, helping reduce stress, she says.

Meditation can be applied to just about every household task—ironing, folding laundry, cutting vegetables—when you focus solely on what you’re doing. “When done with awareness, what is often considered boring and mundane work can actually be a way to develop a quiet and stress-free mind,” says Shapiro.

Cup Cakes It Is!

What is this great fascination with cup cakes? Is it because they are irresistably sweet and devilishly cute? Or is it beacause you need a considerable amount of skill to create them? What ever the reason almost everyone today can be whisked away by cup cakes. Interestingly though they are pretty difficult to eat in a nice and tidy manner. However, they are defintiely a treat for the eyes!

Time to be seduced by another sugary creation..

Finally it's Friday, that extra special day that we wait for everyday. And naturally this occasion deserves the finest quality..
And we shall indulge on a guilt-free ride of scrumptious eclairs, cup cakes, sweet patisseries etc..  All our cravings through out the week, crammed into one delightful celebration!

Ok I am nuts! I think it's the Friday excitement, getting the better of me!

Hear Hear Chathsical!

Well said Chathsical! I am awed by the way you have used humor and sarcasm to paint such a beautiful picture of our much loved heaven! Having said that I do have to agree with you. MSN is only but a play thing for small children. We are matured adults here and certainly are not in need of such childish amusement.  We have far more important tasks at hand.

For example we have to decide on where to go during break, which may seem like an easy enough decision but believe me it is a tedious task. First we have to take in to account the craving of some five or more people ranging from savory to sweet to 'I'm on a diet'. Then there is the issue of precious time. Mind you our goal is to make the most of golden 30 minutes allocated for this task. Some may want to leave NOW whereas others may decide they have far more pressing matters to attend to, while some others may just want to leave in ten minutes (which usually drags on for fifteen to twenty minutes). Once all these elements are strategically analyzed you will see a bunch of young lasses trooping across to the lift in search of a break from heaven. After all the planning then we realize that the precious minutes waiting for the lift has not been taken into account! Tut tut! So there you go, who needs MSN when we are such complicated creatures engaged in such dynamic decision making?

No more MSN?.....But that's the least of our problems!

Greetings to Radical Rascal and to the rest of you!

So when we had the inspiration to have our own blog, the idea was to post something in here on a daily or at least on a regular basis. We haven't really lived up to the expectations but then who cares?? .. This is suppose to be fun, random and spontaneous!  So here I am back again, randomly of course, to share a bit from our exciting lives in 'HEAVEN'..

The past couple of weeks have been quite eventful with various interesting threats looming large on the horizon. They have now become an important part of our lives at 'HEAVEN' and they certainly glorify our lives by leaps and bounds.. I bet Radical Rascal will have some comments on this?
But all in all, despite the unexpected dilemma posed by the banning of MSN and the aforementioned threats, everyone has been holding up impressively well!!  We are survivors indeed!  That is not mentioning the occasional nervous breakdowns from Hannah and the suicide missions  that pop up from nowhere!

Coming back to 'Banning of MSN' - doesn’t bother us at all. We have far more important tasks at hand to ponder over. Besides, the 'Misery Group' in all its glory will always find better ways to breakthrough!!

DIY Manicure

As our current obsession is to do ourselves a manicure.....

1. Carefully remove any existing nail polish with cotton wool and nail polish remover.

2. Soak hands in warm, soapy water, ensuring your nails are clean. Pat hands dry.

3. Begin shaping your nails with light strokes, using a double-sided emery board. Use a few short strokes, followed by deliberate, single, long strokes to smooth the edges on each nail.

4. Have dry skin? Experiment with rubbing cuticle softener on your fingernails and leave for a minute before soaking your hands in soapy water again.

5. Softly push back your cuticles with a clean cotton bud. Very carefully and gently clip any obvious, extra skin. Then massage your hands with lotion.

6. Apply a few light strokes of a base coat, going from the bottom to the top of the nail. Allow this to fully dry before applying two light coats of nail polish.

Friday Lunch Out

Since the Galadhari buffet inspired us so much it’s only fair to share all the juicy details about it. Well, we reached there sharp at 12 noon after another awesome day of course, with the hopes of multiplying that awesomeness. Unfortunately we couldn’t sit at the cozy corner we preferred as most of the tables were reserved. So we had to settle into a corner which was very much exposed. But we are not the type to whine so we sat with our heads held high (not that they are low otherwise). As a vegetarian I can of course comment on only on the greenies, not forgetting the eggs and milk! The starters were a treat! I personally liked the egg salad, and the fruit and veggie salad which was swimming in cheese and cream. I can’t really say I was blown away by the main course although the meat eaters had quite a variety to choose from. Finally way too much rice and potatoes ended up landing inside my tummy. The desserts scored an ok with me, although the chocolate fudge cake was to die for just melting in the mouth.

Finally our eureka moment hit us over a lazy coffee by which time I think we were almost dozing off. Although the ambiance scored well over a 10 with us and we were on the verge of proclaiming the Galadhari buffet as  a success, one of the staff arrived at our table and ruined it all! He actually presented us with the bill when we were having our genius moment! How preposterous! And he had the nerve to come and collect the bill too! Well it was way too much considering our awesomeness and all of that so we left quite abruptly. So that was the end of our heart pumping soul lifting adventure! Considering everything I would say it was a success after all :)

I am deligheted to announce..

So I am Radical's friend, Chatsical and it is by sheer coincidence that our names rhyme! And that I am sure will add to all the fun waiting to happen in this utopia of ours.  I am already overwhelmed with a delicious sense of anticipation!
All the buzz about launching this blog started last Friday and Radical has already made her debut broadcast. Over the coming days and months she will be entertaining and educating us with her one-of-a-kind ideas, enthralling anecdotes from her oh-so-exciting life and her random sparks of genuineness. I intend to be contributing too all the way.
But this of course is only the beginning...
At least once in while :)

Our Little Utopia

And so.. here I go creating a blog which I hope will be a little utopia for us to express our feelings, ideas and share our little adventures as the exciting days go by. First of all I shall write about how we came across this concept of having a written chronicle of our daily musings. It was one of the most enthralling ways to get inspired;over coffee. My elegant friend(who shall introduce herself later on) and I were sipping coffee at Galadhari when the eureka moment hit us. We should have a blog! Mind you it was after a very long day and an even longer buffet lunch, so maybe it was the scrumptious food or maybe it was our pure genius but we decided to write down our brilliant ideas and adventures.

Let this be our little utopia amidst a world of chaos!
